36. real,- BERLIN-MARATHON 2009

Germany celebrates 20 years of reunification: The 36th edition of the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON came up to all its expectations to be a spectacular event not only on the athletic side but with a significant historical meaning as well.

The awarded “marathon of the decade” attracted up to 40.000 participants. The excepional Ethiopian runner Haile Gebrselassie won for the fourth time in a row and set up a new world record over the distance of 30 kilometres.

Atsede Habtamu (ETH) won the race of female runners, finishing in 2.24.47, a half minute inside her personal best.
